  Job Description

  1-Establishing a relationship of trust and respect with clients;

  2-Agreeing a counseling contract to determine what will be covered in sessions (including confidentiality issues);

  3-Encouraging clients to talk about issues they feel they cannot normally share with others;

  4-Actively listening to client concerns and empathizing with their position;

  5-Accepting without bias the issues raised by clients;

  6-Helping clients towards a deeper understanding of their concerns;

  7-Hallenging any inconsistencies in what clients say or do;

  8-Helping clients to make decisions and choices regarding possible ways forward;

  9-Referring clients to other sources of help, as appropriate;

  10-Attending supervision and training courses;

  11-Undertaking personal therapy (mandatory for accreditation)
