Keratoconus Treatment

Keratoconus is a disorder of the cornea, where the cornea thins and bulges outward like a cone, resulting in distorted vision. Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease where the normally round cornea thins and bulges into a cone-like shape. Vision Eye Centre, offers comprehensive treatment for Keratoconus through the following alternative procedures:

C3R (Corneal Collagen Crosslinking with Riboflavin) or CXL

This is a non-invasive procedure to strengthen corneal tissue and limit the bulging of the eye’s surface. With CXL, the outer portion of the cornea (epithelium) is removed to allow application of riboflavin (vitamin B2) that is activated with UV light. Another technique of strengthening the cornea performed at Vision Centre is ‘transepithelial corneal cross-linking’. In this technique, the corneal surface is left intact.

INTACS

This procedure is performed by expert Refractive Surgeons at Vision Eye Centre. A thin semi-circular ring is inserted into the mid layer of keratoconus cornea. After INTACS procedure the corneal surface of eye is flattened by changing the shape and location of the cone, significantly improving the vision. With Intacs corneal implant, the cornea’s natural shape is preserved and can be replaced or removed in the future.
Intacs corneal implants are FDA (USA) approved. This procedure is the treatment of choice the world over and gives lasting results.
